Equestrian Footing

Equestrian footing requires higher attention than that given to general indoor and outdoor horse arena footings. A high degree of perfection in horse footing is needed for the best performance, success, and health of the equines that are part of competitive equestrian teams. The traction and the cushioning capacity of the track should provide maximum resiliency and comfort to the legs of the equines. Hence, normally, high quality equestrian footings are prepared with three layers.

The bottom most layer, known as sub-base, is compacted to maximum possible density after removing the top soil of the existing surface. Then the base layer is prepared with screenings of crushed stone by spreading them evenly on the sub-base. This layer is also compacted to become hard and strong. Proper leveling and grading is also done to ensure maximum stability for these two layers. These layers would provide a foundation that would not give any cause for slippages and would also allow extra water to run off cleanly. Finally, the top layer, termed as the riding surface or the equestrian footing, is prepared. This layer should have enough depth for minimizing the effect of concussion on the legs of the equine but it should not be too deep to cause strain to the legs, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. A wide variety of products like sand, wood, rubber, and their combinations are used for obtaining the best equestrian footing.

This technique consists of using shredded polyester material known as Reitplatzhäcksel iR. The chaff is mixed with silica sand in proportions tailor made to the wishes of the clients or according to the soil analysis conducted by our experts.
