Fleece Fibred Surface

Fleece fibred surfaces were invented as an alternative to overcome the shortcomings of the natural turf surfaces that deteriorated very fast due to the exposure to severe weather conditions. The maintenance of natural turf surfaces was also quite costly due to constant resurfacing work. Further, when exposed to constant sports activities, these surfaces become uneven with pits and pockmarks, sometimes proving dangerous and hazardous for the sportspersons and their equine brethren. When a sporting season is continuing, resurfacing is not possible till the end of the season, even if the natural turf surface had been badly damaged and had become very risky. The resurfacing takes at least 3 to 4 months. During this period, the arena would not be available for use.

One alternative is synthetic surfaces. However, they are quite costly. Further, they affect the eco system, by reducing several natural processes like recharging of the ground water, balancing of oxygen and carbon monoxide, filtration of dust, and modulation of temperature.

The fleece fibred surfaces are the latest answer for the problem associated with the above natural and synthetic turf surfaces. In these surfaces, a synthetic turf base consisting of interwoven synthetic fibers is used. This base is tufted or secured in some other manner to a porous, flexible sub-layer. The pores in these surfaces enable the growth of natural grass on these surfaces, wherever needed. Moreover, the pores ensure ideal water drainage, thus avoiding stagnation of water in the arena. Fiber fleeces are incorporated in the backing material. These fiber fleeces ensure that the synthetic fibers are held securely in place. The fiber fleeces could be made out of cellulosic biodegradable fibers. This biodegradation would allow the growth of natural grass in a dense form and take a deep root in the backing in course of time.
